Ayr, Scotland - April 26, 2010
Had a great time touring through Scotland despite a spill (only broke the windshield and only did that picking the bike up... now fixed with crazy glue and tape) and taking a pheasant into the windshield (or what was left of it by then) at 60. I won't go into details but I think I'm back to being a strict vegetarian on this trip. Very colorful it was.
I spent a day wandering around Edinburgh... probably my most favorite city ever... and spent the night in the underground vaults and wandering around inside 16th crypts listening to horror stories in the dark. I did not scream or faint. It was cold and rainy and that was only appropriate.

Spent yesterday touring along the northern coast from Ullapool to Durness to John O'Groats. Very rugged, wet and cold. Mostly a one-lane track with frequent pullouts, but they needn't bother, you hardly see anybody anyway. But they do have 5-bar cell phone coverage, just in case I guess.

Have been having terrific luck in finding places to stay. It is still a little early for tourists so probably 3/4 of the B&B's are still closed. I've been finding places online for the next day. They are all just beautiful, and mostly $30-40/night. A little high to do the whole trip that way, but pretty cheap I think for Europe. And the weather is still too crappy to camp. I'd never dry out. Maybe more camping in France and Switzerland.
Anyway, will be taking the noon ferry to Belfast tomorrow for a lazy day, then head south to catch the ferry in a few days back to southern England. Need to get moving. Have to be in Turkey a month from today.
Haven't posted any pictures outside of London yet. It takes a while and so I need a total washout rain day with a good internet connection. The forecast is for worse so one may be coming soon.
Finally getting the left-side drive and the money down pat. Just in time to go to France and switch again.
Bike's running good.
